Coaching

I offer individualized professional development services to help you develop your voice and grow your skills in the collaborative and dynamic tech universe.

My experience in Technology leadership has shown me that it will take many of us to build a future for all of us.

There are many corporations that are shaping our futures while being guided by a handful of voices saying the same things.

That will never do.

My goal in offering this service is to improve your experience with your career such that you are an empowered creator of the future you want to live in. Your voice is important. Your participation is vital.

Themes You'll hear me talk about a lot: Change, Humanity, Collaboration

There are many corporations that are shaping our futures while being guided by a handful of voices saying the same things. That will never do.

I work with each coaching client to co-create a plan for your specific engagement, but my approach to coaching builds off of a few key elements explained in more detail below (and illustrated above).

As a User Experience professional that has spent the last 20+ years in technology, I have built and successfully coached teams on how to get things done in changing environments while working with people that don’t necessarily share the same goals. Importantly, I have had to learn how to do this (and help others discover and practice how to do this) by being true to myself and embracing my culture and identity.

Collaboration

There are a lot of individuals, teams, departments, customers, and communities between where you are now and where you want to be. Their actions impact you and your actions impact them.

I work with you to understand that complexity, devise strategies to navigate or change it, and identify how to measure effectiveness so that you can adjust your approach as needed.

Change

Your company and the environment it operates in is constantly shifting – some industries more than others, and with some periods of time being more dynamic than others. This normal level of change is compounded when it comes to technology professionals. You need to stay current with your organization’s internal and external dynamics as well as with technology changes to comprehend how those forces might impact your career.

In addition to external changes, you are changing and growing as a human. We will work together to build an intentional strategy to align your personal growth with your career aspirations. That strategy will form a foundation to an execution practice for anticipating and responding to external elements of change.

Humanity

Who you are, what’s important to you, your thoughts, feelings, abilities, and ambitions are all important determinants of what is “right” for you. Too often society has tried to force us into a mold of highest acceptance for the masses. The problem is that socially defined norms do not honor our humanity or individual value.

I am a firm believer in radical inclusion. That it will take all of our unique talents, messy styles, and self-centered perspectives to build a world that enables as many people to thrive as possible. This includes you. We will work together to express your voice in a way that people hear it to allow your influence to flourish.

Example Co-developed Tools by Specialty

The examples below are meant to illustrate the types of tangible tools that we can develop during the course of your coaching engagement. These tools are helpful to organize your thinking into workable plans to get you where you want to be (e.g. promotion, more satisfied with your current career, finding a new niche). These lists are not meant to be exhaustive, but examples of what’s possible.

Please note that all coaching agreements will be designed to respect corporate confidentiality.

For example, a mid-career product development professional (e.g. UX professionals, Product Managers, Engineers, Data Analysts, Researchers) may need tools like:

    • Development plans, annual performance planning, performance tracking templates

    • Product strategy development framework

    • Product measurement plans and experimentation approaches

    • Stakeholder experience health maps (internal and external)

Another example, a people-leader (new or developing) coaching engagement may yield:

    • Staff growth plans

    • Budget strategy and planning frameworks

    • Informal coaching and team skills health and mapping templates

    • Quest design for team development
